14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is working on bringing phones and Windows 10 PCs in sync, and as part of this effort, several features originally launched on the desktop OS are brought to Android and iOS too.
One such example is Timeline, a Windows 10 feature that creates snapshots of entire sets of activities, like documents, apps, and running browser tabs, and allows users to restore them within 30 days.
Recently, Timeline has reached mobile devices as well, and now it looks like Microsoft is getting ready to make another step further.
Cloud Clipboard, a tool that arrived with Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update) and which allows clipboard content to be synced between devices, will make its way to Android as well.
Microsoft announced earlier this year that it would all be possible through SwiftKey, the company’s own super-popular keyboard app, which would technically allow you to copy text on a PC and paste it on an Android device as long as the same Microsoft account is used.
Enter Microsoft Launcher
But as discovered by reddit user Noam_ha, Microsoft Launcher will soon get Cloud Clipboard integration too. When enabling Cloud Clipboard on Windows 10, users are provided with an option that reads “Get an app to sync clipboard items to your phone” and clicking it allows them to set up a phone number that would then be provided with a link to download Microsoft Launcher.
Microsoft Launcher itself has evolved a lot lately, and adding support for Cloud Clipboard is clearly the right thing to do, especially because this could technically enable syncing between devices without the need for SwiftKey and even support more than just text.
As to when this feature could arrive on Windows 10 and in Microsoft Launcher, we’re guessing insiders would be provided with more details in the coming weeks, ahead of the 19H1 launch due in spring of 2019.
