Microsoft expanding Cloud Clipboard to Android

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) features a major update to the built-in clipboard system, technically enabling synchronization of copied items to more devices.

With the so-called Cloud Clipboard, text and files can be synced from one Windows 10 device to another using the power of cloud, as long as the same Microsoft account is being used.

And with this feature now ready for Windows 10 users, it looks like Microsoft is ready for the next big step: bringing it to Android.

The company is working on expanding Cloud Clipboard to Android, and by the looks of things, the whole thing would be powered by SwiftKey.

At this point, SwiftKey is one of the top third-party keyboard apps on both Android and iOS, and it already features an advanced clipboard manager. Future updates, however, could include support for Cloud Clipboard, technically powering syncing features between Android and Windows 10.

Clipboard syncing on Android

How this is going to work isn’t difficult to figure out. Basically, users can copy something to the clipboard on one device and then be able to paste it on another, and this feature would support both Windows 10 and Android. There’s a chance iPhones will get it too at some point, since SwiftKey is also a popular keyboard app here too, but given Apple’s walled garden, it may take longer for this to happen.

According to reports, Microsoft is already testing this feature in beta versions of SwiftKey, though there’s no ETA just yet as to when it may become available to everyone.

“Get the SwiftKey Beta app for Android now so you’re at the front of the queue for upcoming features, such as syncing your clipboard items to your phone,” a message displayed to new beta users reads.

You can download the most recent SwiftKey Beta APK from Softpedia using this link, but keep in mind that since it’s a preview build, some features may not work exactly as expected.
