14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is hard at work to get the Anniversary Update ready for the big launch on August 2, and the company is expected to publish a new build sometime these days.
The Windows team took everyone by surprise on Saturday, when it shipped Windows 10 build 14385, the first release ever that takes place during the weekend, and this shows that the company wants to accelerate testing before the grand unveiling early next month.
And as part of this accelerated release cadence, a new build is expected to land sometime these days, and there are reports indicating that 14388 is very likely to be the one.
Although we’re not sure that Microsoft wants to publish this new build today, given the fact that it’s Patch Tuesday, 14388 is expected to go live sometime this week for insiders enrolled in the fast ring. And yet, because it’s Patch Tuesday, new cumulative updates for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile devices are very likely to land, and these are very welcome for those still on version 10586.
Continued focus on bug fixes
As far as the changes planned for the next full build are concerned, do not expect anything too exciting because the focus is now on fixing bugs and improving performance, with Microsoft just trying to get everything ready before the public launch.
The last few builds were exclusively focused on performance, reliability, and stability, and this will be the case of the next releases as well. Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has clearly stated that Windows insiders will still get several new builds before the final one is pushed to their devices, so it’s still too early to tell whether 14388 is RTM or not (but there are big chances that it’s not).
The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will launch on August 2 for PC and mobile devices and will bring a long list of improvements, starting with app updates, new Cortana features, Edge extension support, a redesigned Start menu, plus an overhauled Action Center.
