Microsoft has just rolled out Windows 10 build 14342 for PCs and just like expected, the company introduced a bunch of new features that are supposed to be part of the Anniversary Update launching later this year for users on desktop computers and smartphones.

But while work on new Windows features is quite important, so is the attention that the company is paying to squashing bugs that it finds in preview versions of the upcoming update, and this build comes with an important number of fixes in this regard.

A total of 25 major bugs have been addressed in Windows 10 build 14342, but just like as usual, the number is very likely to be bigger given the fact that the company also resolved smaller issues under the hood.

Major fixes in this build

One of the most important fixes concerns the Desktop App Converter Preview that has been released by the company as part of Project Centennial. This solution allows developers to port their desktop programs to Windows Store apps, but in the previous build, the app was blocked and couldn’t run.

Microsoft says that everything should work correctly in build 14342 and devs can use it on both the Pro and the Enterprise editions of Windows 10. The latest converter and base images need to be downloaded, Microsoft said.

Then, the company has improved Cortana’s implementation in the lock screen and polished the animation when invoking her. Windows Hello messages will no longer show up when you are logged in with a fingerprint, and icons have been refined in the Settings app. The battery icon should now be more consistent with the weight of the other icons.

Without a doubt, all these improvements can only be good news for each and every one of us, especially because we are getting closer to the official release date of the Anniversary Update and better stability and reliability is needed. The update should see daylight in July, according to people close to the matter.
