Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 May 2020 Update only a few weeks ago, but as it typically happens when a new feature update is live, users rush to download and install it on their devices.

Needless to say, only some computers are getting the update for reasons that totally make sense.

First and foremost, it’s the phased rollout that Microsoft uses for this new feature update as well, and which means that devices are getting the new version in stages.

In other words, some PCs receive the new Windows 10 version earlier than others, as Microsoft wants to use the time between these stages to find and fix any potential bugs that might affect certain computers.

As one of the world’s largest PC makers, Lenovo has been hard at work with Microsoft on determining the reliability of Windows 10 May 2020 Update on its computers. And this week, the company published the list of devices that are already supported by the May update, explaining that you can safely upgrade them when the new version is live on Windows Update.

Lenovo says the following five families of products have been tested on Windows 10 May 2020 Update:

  • ThinkPad laptops
  • Lenovo Notebook/Ideapad
  • ThinkCentre+AIO
  • IdeaCentre+AIO
  • ThinkStation

The full list of models that have already been certified for Windows 10 version 2004 is embedded in the box after the jump.

All these computers should receive Windows 10 May 2020 Update on Windows Update, and given the update has already been tested, users should be provided with the best possible experience. Of course, keep in mind that bugs could also be caused by third-party apps running on your device and non-Lenovo drivers, so unless you start from scratch, you could still come across occasional problems.

“If your device is not listed in the table below, your system was not tested by Lenovo and updated drivers may not be available. If you want to proceed with upgrading or updating an untested device, refer to the Microsoft Windows Help website. Microsoft may provide generic drivers for the hardware as part of Windows 10, but some features and functionality may be lost,” Lenovo explains.

On the other hand, if the update doesn’t show up on your device, it’s better not to try to install it using other methods. Many turn to the Media Creation Tool or the stand-alone ISO images for the whole thing, but you’d better not do this if you expect a flawless experience.

If the update isn’t ready for your computer, there’s a chance that Microsoft put an upgrade block in place, so the company is aware of a problem that could affect your configuration. If you bypass this safeguard hold and still install the May update using other methods, you could end up struggling with this problem.

Windows 10 version 2004 is projected to reach broad availability later this summer, so for the time being, it’s only offered to devices that are already running Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 and only if they’re eligible for the upgrade.

Once the broad availability phase is reached, the update can be pushed automatically to computers via Windows Update, which means that users would no longer have to manually check for updates to get it.

For the time being, we’re still in the early days of the rollout, so keep in mind that you can also downgrade to the previous version of the OS in the first 10 days after performing the upgrade should you come across any problems with the May update.
