The update should come very soon to the Pre

It was only a matter of days before Palm and Sprint were expected to officially announce the release of webOS 1.2 into the wild, following the recent leak of the operating system flavor, and, although the official word hasn't been said, Sprint published on its website a changelog showing the novelties within the new firmware release.

The webOS 1.2 leaked accidentally a few days ago on Palm's site, yet the webOSDoctor that installed the new version has been pulled out of the mobile phone maker's support page. Up until now, however, it seems that Palm and Sprint haven't started to push the update to their users, though they should do so in the very near future.

Until that happens and users experience on their devices the novelties included in the webOS release, we should take a look at the changelog the guys over at phonenews found on Sprint's site. For what it's worth, a wide range of fixes seem to come around on the Pre with the new OS flavor, yet fresh features and improvements are also there.

The changelog shows that the browser and email will sport an enhanced copy feature, that the global search has been improved to catch synonyms, vCards can be sent/received via the contacts application, that LinkedIn enhancements, Filter search in email, download files in browser, support Amazon MP3 over WAN, Photo Albums sync via Media Sync, have been added, and other more.

Here are some of the issues that the webOS 1.2 version addresses: -Capability has been added to dial phone numbers from a calendar notes field. -Device will no longer reboot while attempting to download music when there was not available user memory. -Sprint Navigation is now able to use free form addresses for navigation, including addresses from personal email accounts. -PDF files can now be opened from a browser link. -On Google calendar, all day events that are changed to timed events on a computer are now properly updated. -If large attachments are sent in an e-mail, the e-mail is no longer sent twice. -When setting email sync time to manual the device will no longer automatically sync the email accounts. -Syncing issue with personal accounts has been resolved.

As stated above, it shouldn't be too long before Palm Pre users get notified on the new firmware version available for their devices. With the Palm Pixi just around the corner, it seems that Palm is accelerating the process of bringing more improvements to the OS, just to make sure that users won't experience issues as they did with the Pre.
