New apps available for the device

Palm's latest mobile phone, the Palm Pre, is available in the United States only on the airwaves of wireless carrier Sprint, and through this company's partners, and features at the moment a price tag of $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the operator. While this price doesn't sound bad considering the capabilities of the device, it seems that things might turn to even better in the near future.

According to a recent article on PreCentral, Sprint might lower the price tag for the Pre to $149.99 on a contract, which means that its subscribers would pay $50 less for the high-end smartphone. The new offer is reportedly running from September 8 to October 31, 2009, and will be available at the carrier's “indirect partners.” An Everything Data or Simply Everything plan should also be taken into the equation. Other price cuts will also come to Sprint's users, and we might hear that the carrier will apply them on its own channels too.

September 8 will be here tomorrow, so we'll learn quite soon whether the rumor pans out or not. In the meantime, we should mention that the App Catalog is starting to gain a little more consistency. 13 new applications were added to the software portal last week, which raises their number to around 60. Considering the slow start Palm's App Catalog has seen, we can say that things are getting much better for the handset, the webOS and its users.

According to palmwebosblog, the 13 new software solutions included with the App Catalog would be DIRECTV NFL, Tip 'em!, Translator, The Globe And Mail, TMap- DC, Express Horoscopes, wikiHow, Dumb Waiter, Zilch Lite, Photo Dialer, UberPass, Lemonade and Coin Flip. More applications will certainly make their way to the store in the near future, so watch this space for more updates on the matter.
