14 DAY TRIAL // VideoLAN has already announced the development of a universal app version of VLC for Windows 10, so everyone’s now eagerly waiting for the public release.
Screenshots that have reached the web today via MSPU show the Windows 10 Mobile flavor of the VLC UWP app, revealing a major UI overhaul, but also the addition of new features.
First and foremost, VLC for Windows 10 Mobile looks absolutely brilliant and is definitely one of the apps that everyone would want to have on their mobile devices. VLC has become famous for being able to play virtually any multimedia format out there, so now the app not only comes in very handy when working with a wide array of formats, but it also looks very good and perfectly aligns with the design language used by Microsoft for Windows 10 Mobile.
New features also being added
According to the same source, the app is currently in beta stage and bugs are still there, but this obviously makes sense. VideoLAN is hard at work to get the app ready for Windows 10 Mobile users, and additional time is needed to fix all bugs because nobody would be interested in getting an app that doesn’t work as expected on their devices.
As far as new features are concerned, it appears that the Windows 10 Mobile version of VLC features UPnP and network share browsing, which definitely comes in handy especially in households where media centers are available. Windows 10 Mobile devices with VLC could thus be able to play content from networks, just like a fully featured PC.
Additionally, VideoLAN is also adding HTTPS support, improved hardware decoding, a larger collection of codecs, and many other great things.
As far as the release date is concerned, there’s no certain information in this regard, but VideoLAN continues work on the project, so it should see daylight sometime in the coming months.
The app will be available only for devices running the Redstone update, and phones that are still on the RTM version of Windows 10 won’t be able to install it.
