Chinese company Vivo announced earlier this month that it would start selling its V1 and V1 Max smartphones in India. However, the handset maker did not confirm when these Android phones would go on sale.

Today, Vivo officially kicked off the sale of its V1 mid-range Android smartphone. Even though the smartphone began selling in India at the beginning of this week for Rs 16,000 ($250 / €230), Vivo announced today that V1's suggested retail price is Rs 17,890 ($280 / €255).

Potential customers can grab the Vivo V1 only in gold color. The smartphone is available all major retailers across the country, so you will surely find a better price than the one suggested by Vivo.

Moving on to specs, Vivo V1 is a pure mid-range Android smartphone, which suggests that the Chinese company might have overpriced this device.

Since competition is fierce in the mid-tier range in India, Vivo V1 might not be that popular as the handset maker believes now.

It runs Vivo's FunTouch UI on top of Lollipop

The V1 ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, which is a good thing for a mid-end smartphone. On top of that, Vivo V1 runs the company's proprietary FunTouch UI.

Design-wise, Vivo V1 is a real masterpiece. The smartphone is made of magnesium alloy, it weighs 145g (battery included) and is only 6.78mm thin.

On the inside, the device is equipped with a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, an Adreno 306 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Another strong point of the V1 would be the fact that it comes with 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

There's also a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, along with a 5-megapixel selfie camera in the front.

Vivo V1 offers both 4G LTE and dual-SIM support, but also comes with FM Radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with AGPS and 2,300 mAh battery. It's also worth mentioning the smartphone sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.
