Earlier this month, as Vin Diesel smoked a cigarette on the balcony of his hotel room in Miami, he had no idea that paparazzi with long-range lenses were taking his photo, much less that, within hours, the Internet would be whipped into a frenzy with talk of how “fat” he’d gotten. Dad bod was never a concept that we would have associated with him before.

Yet he’s ok with that, with the world knowing that he’s not always in top physical shape and that he doesn’t always look like he just stepped out of a gym, where he’d been training for hours. Yes, Vin Diesel has a dad bod, but there’s really no shame in it, he tells Complex magazine in a new interview.

“The best body in New York City for decades”

As you may recall, Vin has already addressed the whole fat / dad bod controversy, when he attended New York Comic-Con a few days later and he made sure he posed for photos with his shirt lifted to show off his still impressive six-pack.

He also talked about the whole thing on his social media, calling out haters for basically bullying him for his weight gain and saying that he was never the guy to stand for it. So he has a dad bod, what was the problem with that? He was a dad after all, wasn’t he?

Speaking to Complex to promote his film “The Last Witch Hunter,” the actor admits that he’s still surprised that those paparazzi photos went viral and started such a frenzy online the way they did.

As a father of 3, he is ok with his dad bod, especially since he happens to be in between projects, which means no intense workouts for him. He’s just chilling for a while and he refuses to let the haters get to him for saying he’s gained weight - which he obviously knows.

Then, there’s this to consider: “How do I feel about the invasion? That sneaky invasion of privacy feels weird. That’s not right. How do I feel about people being so focused on that? I’m okay because I’ve had the best body in New York City for decades. There is no love lost there for me. I sing on my Facebook. You don’t get more dangerous than that, right?” (emphasis ours)

It’s invasion of privacy, alright

Justin Bieber dealt with a similar situation just recently too, when photos of him on vacation in Bora Bora were sold to the tabloids. They too had been snapped from a considerable distance, right into his home - or very close to it because he was by the pool.

The fact that Bieber was completely nude made the photos go viral even faster than in Diesel’s case, and the pop star later admitted that, while he felt he had nothing to be ashamed of, he felt very violated about having paparazzi’s actions.

Generally speaking, it is illegal for paparazzi to take photos of someone in or right outside their homes, using long-range camera lenses. In both Bieber and Diesel’s case, this would constitute grounds for a lawsuit.
