ZTE is possibly working on a new smartphone, as a new model was recently spotted in benchmark at GFXBench. The device is listed as ZTE A2018 and was noticed in benchmarks last month.

The ZTE smartphone could be a variant of the Axon 7s, which was released earlier this year. Some specs of the Axon A2018 were revealed in the listing, including the fact that it comes with a 5.5-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and runs last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 platform.

The processor was featured on many smartphones launched last year, including the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge or the LG G5. The tested model runs 4GB of RAM and features 128GB of internal storage, while the display’s aspect ratio appears to be 16:9.

ZTE A2018 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in benchmark

The smartphone also appears to run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow at the time of the testing, but upon its release it will surely come with Android Nougat out of the box. In terms of camera performance, the device appears to come with an 8MP front sensor and a 12MP rear camera.

Axon 7s came with the same display size and resolution, but the main camera had a capacity of 20MP and the phone came with 6GB of RAM. Some say that ZTE A2018 could actually be the upcoming Axon 8, but its specs don’t match details in the previous TENAA listing.

The recent TENAA listing showed that Axon 8 might come with 20MP and 12MP sensors in the dual camera setup on its back, located above the regular fingerprint scanner. In addition, the flagship Axon 8 should run the latest Snapdragon 835 platform, if not Snapdragon 821.

Still, the A2018 could be a variant of the Axon 8 that ZTE is currently testing. Axon 7 was announced last year in May, which means that it won’t be long until the Axon 8 arrives and the phone’s specs and pricing are revealed, together with details about availability.
