14 DAY TRIAL // ZTE released the Axon 7 last year and it was quite well received on the market, receiving Android Nougat updates and support for Google’s Daydream platform. Last month, ZTE revealed the Axon 7s variant with some upgraded hardware, and it seems that a new smartphone is already in the works.
A ZTE smartphone carrying the codename A2018 has just received TENAA certification, the equivalent of the US FCC. Images and some specs of the new smartphone were revealed, but there’s no definitive proof that this is actually the Axon 8, as it could be another variant of the Axon 7.
Still, the images do reveal a smartphone very similar to last year’s Axon 7, with a dual-camera setup on the back and a fingerprint sensor right below. The code name even suggests that this could be the Axon 8, considering that last year’s model was known as A2017.
4GB of RAM and 5.5-inch display
The listing also reveals that the upcoming ZTE smartphone could feature a 5.5-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, very similar to Axon 7. The smartphone appears to measure 151.7 x 75 x 7.7mm and weigh 170 grams, making it slimmer and lighter than last year’s model.
However, details about internal specifications are a bit offsetting. The unnamed CPU features a 2.15GHz quad-core chip and the device appears to run Android 6.0.1, same as last year’s Axon 7. RAM capacity is just 4GB, while Axon 7s features 6GB of RAM.
The A2018 could very well be the global version of the Axon 7s, but it’s difficult to say for sure at this point. In addition, the A2018 device also appears to feature a 3,320mAh battery, while the Axon 7s has a 3,400mAh juicer inside. More information will surely surface soon, since last year’s Axon 7 was announced in May last year, and ZTE could very well unveil a new flagship in the coming weeks.
