In their effort to make the upcoming Total War: Warhammer as faithful to the fantasy universe on which it is based as possible, the developers working on it are introducing long unique quest chains for the main characters in the title, with The Creative Assembly ready to show off those linked to Karl Franz, the leader of the Empire.

In an official blog post, the studio says that each of the three will feature a magical item that can greatly enhance his power as he seeks to find a way to keep down the power of Chaos and make his faction the dominant one of the Old World.

The Creative Assembly reveals that the first of the three legendary quest chains is called The Reikland Runefang and will feature an adventure across the coast of Nordland that features Norscan invaders and a more powerful foe.

The Silver Seal will feature an attack on the vaults below the palace of Altdorf and will feature a Witch Hunter and a quest to take out a secretive enemy who is able to breach the heart of the Empire.

Finally in Ghal Maraz, "Emperor Karl Franz has received an urgent message from the college of the Celestial Order. Skilled in divination, the Celestial Wizards have been concerned by unusual eddies within the Wind of Azyr, portending doom for the Empire. However, the fluctuations in the sorcerous winds are obscuring the precise nature of the threat."

The final battle of the quest will allow the character to get access to his powerful warhammer if he performs well during an engagement with the Greenskins.

Faction leaders in Total War: Warhammer will be very important for gamers, designed with a special set of skills and able to get access to unique artifacts that will allow them to influence the destiny of their races both on the campaign map and during tactical combat.

No Vampire Counts details are yet offered

The Empire, the Dwarves and the Greenskins will each have two capable Lords, one focus on might and another more oriented towards magical powers, and the initial choice of leader will influence how a campaign is conducted.

The characters are capable of holding off powerful units in combat, but their real value comes when they boost friendly units to perform better.

So far the developers have not offered any information about the Vampire Count lords although their location on the map is clear.

The Creative Assembly has suggested that the undead faction will have a range of unique ways of influencing the campaign map and of undermining enemy forces before they enter a battle.

Total War: Warhammer will be out on April 28 and can only be played on the PC, with gamers who are interested in getting access to a new Chaos warriors faction to play on the campaign map required to place a pre-order for the strategy title.

The Creative Assembly and SEGA have said that the new Total War is the first of a trilogy based around the fantasy universe created by Games Workshop.
