As expected, Motorola has just announced the first phone in the Moto Z2 series, alongside multiple Moto Mods and accessories. Moto Z2 Play carries a price tag of $500 for the unlocked version with 64GB of internal storage.

The smartphone has a similar design to the previous Moto Z Play, launched last year, but it comes with a thinner body and a smaller battery capacity. The Moto Z2 Play is 6mm thick, compared to 7mm of the previous model, and comes with a 3,000mAh battery, which Motorola says lasts for about 30 hours, less than the 50 hours official battery life for the Moto Z Play. The battery can charge with up to 8 hours of power in just 15 minutes.

The display size stays the same at 5.5 inches with 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. Motorola says that the smartphone has water-repellent nano coating, which isn’t the same as IP68 certification, but makes sure that water doesn’t reach internal components under certain conditions.

Moto Z2 Play will arrive globally later this month

Moreover, the smartphone has a redesigned fingerprint button on the front, with a larger elliptical shape and a protruding camera on the back. In terms of internal specs, the Moto Z2 Play runs the new Snapdragon 626 platform, built on the 14nm manufacturing process.

RAM capacity stands at 3GB or 4GB, while internal storage is offered in two options, either 32GB or 64GB. Moto Z2 Play offers a dual-pixel auto-focus 12MP sensor on the back with f/1.7 aperture, while the front camera capacity reaches 5MP with f/2.2 aperture with dual LED flash. The new phone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Moto Z2 Play will be available in three color options, including Lunar Gray, Nimbus Blue or Fine Gold. The phone carries a price tag of $500 for the unlocked variant with 64GB of internal storage and should arrive at Verizon Wireless in July and on Motorola’s online site later this year. The phone is already available in Brazil and should be released globally later this month.
