14 DAY TRIAL // The Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update rollout begins in just a few hours, and as Microsoft already announced, it comes with new privacy controls that are displayed once the install comes to an end.
This is part of Redmond’s efforts to meet requirements of various privacy watchdogs across the world, and both PC and mobile devices are going to get a new privacy configuration screen at the first run after installing the Creators Update.
Microsoft has already started testing the new privacy settings in the Windows 10 Creators Update with mobile build 15207 released a few hours ago, but the company says that it’s aware of some bugs that it wants to fix before everyone gets the new version of the operating system.
“We have added a privacy page to the Windows 10 Mobile OOBE and upgrade experiences that allows you to quickly and effectively make common privacy changes while setting up the device,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explained.
“However, Insiders have reported that their device would crash or reboot shortly after unlocking their device for the first time after the upgrade if their device did not have a password configured to unlock the device. After updating to Build 15207, you will see this privacy page one more time - but should no longer experience a crash or reboot.”
More privacy tweaks in Windows 10
As part of Microsoft’s commitment to transparency and privacy in Windows 10, the company is also providing more information on each option available to users, including short descriptions of each privacy settings displayed alongside Learn more links.
Additionally, Redmond is also publishing more information on the data it collects, after criticism from privacy watchdogs in Europe called for the company to disclose what it does with the details collected from Windows 10 devices.
The Creators Update is thus an important milestone when it comes to user privacy for both the company and its customers, so everyone eligible for the upgrade should install it as soon as it becomes available.
