The Alpha testers didn't follow the instructions

The Division is an upcoming open-world action-RPG from Ubisoft that’s supposed to land in 2016, after a few big delays. It looks like the first gameplay videos from the community have leaked online.

Ubisoft gave us a couple of gameplay videos for The Division, but people are always skeptic when these videos come directly from developers. It’s difficult to trust them with everything they say since they are basically trying to sell a product, and they’re only going to show us the good bits.

The Division was supposed to undergo a public Beta at the end of 2015, but it was postponed for 2016. A few users who preordered the Xbox One version of the game had a Beta promised and those are not the users who you want to upset. So, Ubisoft gave access to a closed Alpha version for a chosen few, that took place from December 9 to 12.

Leaked videos are a good thing

As you can expect from this kind of Alpha version, users are not allowed to talk about the game on public forums, to take screenshots or videos. Even the publishers know that what they are asking is impossible, but they will try to take the video down nonetheless.

A few videos have been posted on NeoGAF, and it looks like the game is pretty much like the one demoed by Ubisoft, for the most part. Most likely, the version that was shown almost a year ago was running on a powerful PC rig, since it looked better and with much crisper textures, but gameplay-wise, it's not much of a difference.

The launch date for The Division, across all platforms, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, is March 8, 2016, if nothing else changes. The game has been delayed a few times until now, so if the developers feel they need more time, they just might get it.
