If you’re a fan of big ensemble dramas based on real-life events, then “The Big Short” might be just the film to keep an eye out for, especially now that it’s been moved up for a limited December release, which will qualify it for the awards season.

“The Big Short” was initially supposed to come out sometime in 2016, but Paramount decided to put it out early. A first trailer for it has debuted online some hours ago, and as usual, you can see it in full and in HD below.

Based on the best-selling book by Michael Lewis (“Moneyball” and “The Blind Side”), “The Big Short” recounts the events before the housing bubble burst, sending America’s and then the world’s economy into a tailspin.

To paraphrase Steve Carell’s character in the trailer, it’s the story of how the banks defrauded the American people, and of how a handful of outsiders saw that and put an end to it.

“The Big Short” also stars Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling with a really bad tan and questionable dark hair, Brad Pitt, Marisa Tomei, Melissa Leo and Karen Gillen. It’s directed by Adam McKay, who previously helmed “Anchorman” and “Step Brothers”; it’s actually McKay’s first drama.

It will open in limited US release on December 11 and then wide at Christmastime, after making the rounds at a few local festivals.
