14 DAY TRIAL // Telegram released quite a few updates in the last couple of weeks, which added lots of new features and improvements to all three major platforms: Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
Today, developers announced yet another update for both Android and iOS platforms. Windows Phone users will probably have to wait a bit more for the new features announced today to make it to their devices.
The most important improvement announced by Telegram is the increase in the number of people who can join a supergroup from 1,000 to 5,000.
Also, Telegram now features new tools for supergroup admins. The first one is called pinned messages, which are displayed at the top of the chat screen. The new features should allow all members to receive a notification, even if they muted ordinary messages from the group.
Another important tool for supergroup admins is the fact that they can become public and get a short link. This new feature will allow anybody to view the group’s entire chat history and join to post messages.
In order to prevent potential spam issues, Telegram developers added powerful moderation tools for group admins. These tools will allow admins to quickly delete all messages from a specific member, block and report them.
Convert any group to a supergroup
According to Telegram, these new tools will only work in supergroups, but beginning this week, any group can be converted to a supergroup by its creator.
If you’re already using Telegram, then you should know that the new features will be rolled out to public groups gradually. These features are already available in Europe and America, but they are not yet accessible in several countries in Asia where Telegram has detected significant spam activity in the past.
You can now download Telegram for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.3 and up.
For iOS users, the application is free to download via App Store. It should work smoothly on all devices running iOS 6.0 or later.
