The development team at DICE has already laid out its long-term plans for Star Wars Battlefront and now the shooter is getting the long-talked-about January update, which is designed to deliver a range of new content for the game while also improving the overall balance.

In order to make sure that matches are fun and engaging for as many of the involved players as possible, the studio is implementing a long list of changes to the characters, the abilities and the weapons featured, nerfing the most popular of them.

Gamers can see a full list of the tweaks DICE is making by clicking on the button at the end of this article and fans will find that the Millennium Falcon and the Slave I both have lower health, which should make them easier to deal with, and that Boba Fett, one of the more popular heroes, no longer dominates battlefields.

Star Wars Battlefront also gets various game mode tweaks, and the weapons are now better balanced.

The January update for the game also delivers new Hoth-themed skins for both Luke Skywalker and Han Solo while making Blast, Droid Run, Hero Hunt, Heroes vs. Villains, and Drop Zone playable on the Tatooine survival map.

DICE has also been taking into account requests from the community and Star Wars Battlefront now features private matches as well as daily challenges and community events, all of them designed to keep gamers engaged with the title for as long as possible.

Three DLC packs for the shooter have been named

According to the studio, there are plans to deliver free updates for Star Wars Battlefront in both February and March, introducing new content that the entire player base can enjoy.

Those who are willing to pay will be able to get access to four major downloadable content packs for the shooter, all of them covered by the Season Pass.

In March, DICE is offering the Outer Rim DLC pass, which will allow gamers to do battle in Jabba the Hut's palace, and later during spring paying customers will also be able to travel to the Cloud City in the Bespin content delivery.

The Death Star becomes a battle environment later in the year and a final DLC package for Star Wars Battlefront will be introduced in early 2017, although the company is not willing to reveal the actual name.

The Season Pass is covering the delivery of eight heroes and villains, but their identities and abilities have not yet been announced, and more Star Cards and weapons are also on the way.

DICE and Electronic Arts have already mentioned that more titles that will use the Star Wars Battlefront are in development and might explore planets and other content associated with The Force Awakens.

The publisher and Disney have an exclusive deal for video games based on the franchise, with BioWare working on a yet-unannounced experience and another title created by a team led by Amy Henning, which might feature content from the canceled Star Wars 1313.
