The team at DICE that's in charge of long-term support for Star Wars Battlefront is announcing that it is planning to introduce free new content to the shooter starting on Wednesday, January 27 while giving players some more details about the kinds of new experiences that will be offered all through 2016.

Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, a senior producer working on the game, explains on the official site that the Tatooine survival map is being expanded to support modes like Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains multiplayer under the new Raider Camp name.

Both Luke Skywalker and Han Solo can get new outfits based on the cold climate of Hoth, but no other skins for the rest of the heroes or villains are featured.

Star Wars Battlefront is also adding private matches, one of the most requested features, and gamers will also get access to daily challenges and community events.

The developer explains that "These are designed to rally the Community around certain goals and objectives, giving players the chance to earn credits and unlocks even faster. We'll have more news regarding Community Events and Daily Challenges in the days ahead. And of course, we are also including some overall balancing tweaks to both weapons and multiplayer modes."

It's unclear whether the company plans to offer a full list of the changes that will improve the Star Wars Battlefront starting on January 27.

For February, more free content is planned, including a new Hoth-based survival mission and a new multiplayer environment set on the same planet that will feature support for Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron and Turning Point, which will also be offered on more maps.

Star Wars Battlefront will be expanded in March with an Endor-based map designed for big battles as well as a new Tatooine survival battle.

Three DLC packs linked to the Season Pass get more details

In March gamers who are willing to spend money to expand Star Wars Battlefront will also be able to download a downloadable content pack called Outer Rim, which will feature a new Sullust map as well as a battle that takes place in the palace of Jabba the Hut.

Bespin is set to arrive for the shooter during the summer and introduces maps linked to the cloud city and DICE also plans to allow players to do battle on the Death Star at some point during the fall.

A fourth and final DLC for Star Wars Battlefront will arrive in early 2017, and the studio is not yet willing to offer details on the exact distribution of the new heroes and villains that it plans to add or about their identities.

The company has already said that it is also aiming to introduce more Star Cards, extra weapons and even new modes to make sure that the multiplayer-focused shooter remains interesting to players.

Electronic Arts has already revealed that sequels for Star Wars Battlefront are in development and might tackle locations featured in the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie.
