Insomniac's PS4 exclusive Spider-Man has just received a GOTY, a logical move considering raving reviews it received at launch. If you haven't played the game for whatever reasons, you can pick up the Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition for just $40.

Unfortunately, those who already own the base game will still have to pay $25 for The City That Never Sleeps DLC, so the release of the GOTY edition doesn't help them at all. Regardless, Spider-Man's DLC is just as great as the base game, so if you're having second thoughts on whether or not to buy it, we can't recommend it enough.

PlayStation 4 owners who'd like to buy the GOTY edition will get the Spider-Man base game and The City That Never Sleeps DLC, which contains three chapters. All three are story-driven expansions that you'll want to play for the full Spider-Man experience.

The bundle arrives just short of a year after the original game's debut confirming the previous leak that claimed Sony and Insomniac might release a Game of the Year Edition for Marvel's Spider-Man.

"It seems crazy that just about a year ago people hadn’t yet had a chance to swing around Marvel’s New York. We’ll always remember that first E3 in 2016 when our teaser trailer surprised fans that we had teamed up with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel Games to put our own spin on one of the most famous fictional characters of all-time," said James Stevenson, Community Director, Insomniac Games.

Speaking of teaming up, Sony recently announced plans to acquire Insomniac Games, the developer behind the critically-acclaimed Spider-Man game, thus recognizing the value of having such a high standard studio under its belt.

Some would say that Sony is preparing for the release of the next-generation consoles by having some of the best developers working on launch titles that would give it the upper hand in the gaming industry. There's no doubt that Insomniac is a great investment and we wouldn't be surprised if Sony will revisit New York City in a Spider-Man sequel.
