14 DAY TRIAL // Many OEMs are working on Android Nougat updates for their flagship phones, although some of them like HTC have encountered some issues and were forced to halt the process. Sony seems to take the lead by a long shot, as the company has started rolling out the software update to its relatively old Xperia Z5 phones.
Sony is now becoming one of the quickest OEMs to release Nougat software updates, well before other smartphone makers. Back in November, the company started rolling out the 7.0 Nougat update for the Xperia X Performance. By contrast, Samsung ended its beta program in late December.
The Xperia XZ quickly followed and received the Nougat update, while the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact were treated to the same Android software update just last month. Obviously, Sony continued working on optimizing the new UI and features inside Nougat to bring them to even more Xperia smartphones. Xperia X Concept started receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat at the beginning of this month.
More Sony phones to receive the update soon
Sony has just started rolling out the 7.0 Nougat update to Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium phones, with build number 32.3.A.0.372, according to XperiaBlog. The update will arrive shortly to Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+, and the Xperia Z4 tablet as well.
As expected, the new software update will bring support for exciting Nougat features like multi-windows, which allows users to run two applications simultaneously and switch between them with a double tap. Sony will also provide longer battery life for phones that receive the update, as well as a self-timer button for the front cameras, making it easier to snap selfies.
The latest Xperia Home launcher with Google Now integration is also included in the update. Sony has yet to update its website with information on the new version, but that should happen very soon.
