14 DAY TRIAL // Sony announced last month that it plans to be the first OEM to release the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for its smartphones. True to its promise, the Japanese company has just launched the highly-anticipated update for the Xperia X Concept.
Sony's Concept for Android is a crowdsourcing program that allows the company to explore new ideas in software innovation and experience, while at the same time maintaining a close dialog with the Xperia community.
That being said, it looks like the Xperia X is the first non-Google smartphone to receive the newest Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. As XperiaBlog points out, Sony is now pushing Android 7.1.1 Nougat MR1 to the Xperia X, so if you own the smartphone, you should look for build number 38.3.A.0.41.
Keep in mind that the update is only available for those who are now running the Experimental track on Xperia X Concept. This means that this build is still being tested, so you might encounter some bugs and/or stability issues.
Some neat new features from Sony
Among the most important changes added by Sony in this update, there's a new Restart option in the power button menu. The addition of a Restart option was one of the most requested features, Sony claims.
Another important improvement is support for PlayStation 4 remote-play. However, keep in mind that the smartphone does not feature DualShock support for the moment. Also, the official changelog mentions the update brings faster camera startup time as well.
It's also worth mentioning that the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for Xperia X Concept contains the December security patch. However, but the time a stable version is released, it will probably include a newer security patch.
Now let's see how long it will take until Sony releases a stable Android 7.1.1 Nougat for the Xperia X or any other of its Xperia smartphones.
