The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation 4 is announcing that the home console has managed to move no less than 5.7 million devices to players during the 2015 holiday season, consolidating its lead over the Xbox One going into 2016.

The company says that the total number of home consoles that have been delivered to customers has reached 35.9 million units when figures for January 3 of this year are taken into account.

Digital and retail video game sales associated with the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and the Vita handheld have reached 35 million during the period between November 3 of 2015 and January 3, 2016.

Subscriptions to the PlayStation Plus service have also gone up by more than 60 percent when compared to the same period of 2014, which is a solid performance for the company and shows that it managed to deliver the extra quality that gamers are willing to pay for.

Andrew House, the chief executive officer and the president of Sony, says that he is happy with the performance of the device and thanks all those who have picked one up.

He adds, "We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver innovative entertainment experiences, and look forward to bringing an unprecedented games portfolio from third-party developers and publishers and SCE Worldwide Studios, including Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, New Hot Shots Golf and The Last Guardian, this coming year."

Sony has already said that it has no plans to introduce a price cut for the PlayStation 4 in the coming 12 months and that it wants to add more value by upgrading the capabilities of the console and by making sure that the coming exclusives offer the expected quality.

Uncharted 4 is the biggest launch of the first half of 2016

The final video game in the series created by Naughty Dog was set to arrive in March but was delayed to late April to offer the team more time to make sure that the multiplayer mode is what the fan community expects.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End focuses on the relationship between Nathan Drake and his presumed lost brother Sam and their attempts to find Libertalia, a hidden pirate island that is also the home of a massive treasure that's also the target of a shadowy organization.

According to Naughty Dog, the game will feature more emotion than any other installment in the series, and gamers will have to decide how much they are willing to sacrifice to save those characters the protagonist has created a connection with over the course of the franchise.

Uncharted 4 will also feature a multiplayer mode that features some of the relics that have been featured in the series, and the team has said that it has plans to introduce more content for both modes via downloadable content packs, although their exact number was not mentioned.

Sony will probably reveal a bundle that featured the game and the PlayStation 4 closer to launch to boost sales for both products during April and May.
