Video game developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony are announcing that they are delaying the launch of the long-awaited Uncharted 4: A Thief's End to April 26 in order to make sure that the quality of the title is the one that the player base is expecting, with more details about the improvements set to be offered in the coming weeks.

An official announcement on the United States PlayStation site explains that production on the title is currently wrapping up but that a little more time is required so that it can reach its full potential.

Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, two of the leaders of the development team at Naughty Dog, explain, "This is our largest Uncharted game to date, and the team has been working incredibly hard to meet the challenge of closing out the game’s development in a timely manner. However, as we approached our final deadlines and started wrapping up the game’s levels, we realized that several key sequences needed extra resources to bring them to the finish line."

The studio claims that it has examined all options and tried to avoid the delay but the polishing process is very important, and that means that March is no longer a valid launch date for the new Nathan Drake title.

The team at Naughty Dog apologizes to all gamers for the delay to April 26 and explains that the coming mechanics and story are worth the almost seven weeks that gamers will have to wait for the title.

Initially, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was supposed to arrive on March 18, and when it was first announced, gamers expected to get access to it before the end of 2015.

Nathan Drake will embark on his biggest adventure yet

As always, the focus at Naughty Dog is on the single-player story, which will star the master thief as he comes out of retirement when he meets his long-lost brother Sam.

Together they must travel across the world to find Libertatia, a rumored pirate state where a huge treasure is hidden, but the road to it is fraught with danger, and the pair and its associates, including Scully and Elena Fischer, are threatened by a powerful, shadowy organization.

The development team says that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be the most emotional title in the series and will test how far Nathan Drake is willing to go to protect his loved ones and secure his legacy.

Naughty Dog is also creating a special new multiplayer mode for the title, which will focus on the many supernatural artifacts that were introduced by the series, now used by teams to take out their enemies.

The studio says that it wants to create an accessible but deep experience with some cool weapons and cooperative mechanics.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will only be offered on the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony.

This is the first title in the series that will receive single-player downloadable content after launch, although it's unclear what kind of story it will tell.
