Recently, the NPD Group has released its hardware and software sales charts for the month of March in the United States of America, and the biggest players in the hardware market, Sony and Microsoft, are both reacting to the information, even if they are unwilling to deliver any solid numbers for any of the platforms.

Sony states, according to information from NeoGAF, "Thank you to our fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top-selling console and software sales leader for the month of March, as well as the number-one console for fans of The Division, according to NPD."

The manufacturer also declares itself humbled by the success of its home console and says that it plans to deliver more interesting experiences for it all through the year, mentioning specifically the launch of the PlayStation VR in October.

Microsoft is saying that the number of hours spent playing the Xbox One increased in March by 89 percent when compared to last year and that its big performers for the month are The Division from Ubisoft and Killer Instinct: Season 3.

The company also mentioned that Quantum Break from Remedy, which arrived in early April, is the best-selling new intellectual property that was launched for the current generation of hardware, while thanking fans for the performance.

Both companies are getting ready to upgrade their hardware

Rumors and sources are talking about improved versions of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One that will be announced soon and will be launched before the end of the year.

It seems that Sony is getting ready to announce a big update for its device that will be able to run content in 4K resolution and will come with a new AMD graphics processing unit that is designed to offer double the performance of the current one.

The claim is that the device will come with an attached price of 499 dollars or Euro and that it will also be designed to offer extra resources for the coming PlayStation VR headset.

Other sources are saying that Microsoft has also found ways to improve the Xbox One and is planning to deliver a Slim version of the device that will be quieter and will also offer somewhat improved performance.

Both the devices will have to compete with the coming Nintendo NX, which is rumored to come with solid computing power and unique features that neither platform holder nor those close to the creation process are willing to talk about.
