Some Galaxy S8 and S8+ can’t charge wirelessly

Since receiving their new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones, some users have complained about WiFi connectivity issues and a reddish tint on the display. Samsung quickly responded and announced that a fix would arrive in the form of a software update soon.

But it seems that a new problem has affected some Galaxy S8 and S8+ units, preventing them from charging wirelessly. Owners of such smartphones have taken to Samsung’s community forum to reveal that their devices aren’t charging wirelessly.

Users complain that they are unable to charge their devices using Samsung’s Fast Charging pad. Some of them have revealed that the company’s older charging pads don’t seem to work with the new Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, although they’re on the same Qi standard and shouldn’t encounter any issues.

A temporary fix is to use a non-Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger

Others have revealed that their phones aren’t plagued by this issue and they’ve had no problems charging their devices with Samsung’s fast charging pad. A temporary fix for the issue requires the use of a non-Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger with the older pads, which would allow the phones to charge at slower speeds. Other users simply get a notification on their smartphone, informing them that wireless charging has been paused.

Perhaps, Samsung is preventing wireless Fast Charging on older pads, so that there wouldn’t be any issues with Galaxy S8’s battery. But if that is the case, Samsung should simply inform customers of this possibility, so that they wouldn’t think that their Galaxy S8 and S8+ units are plagued with an issue.

However, this could very well be a firmware problem which can be fixed relatively easily through a software update. Whichever the case, Samsung will surely address the issue in a timely manner and inform customers of how it will handle the problem, just like it happened with the reddish tint on the display, which will be fixed via a software update very soon.
