Last week, customers from Korea started receiving their Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones from Samsung and they noticed that the display had a rather reddish tint. Samsung quickly addressed customer complaints saying that display optimization settings can be tweaked to adjust the colors of the screen.

But some users still experienced the issue even after they adjusted the settings. Later, Samsung announced that it would roll out a fix for the issue, and now we have the date for when that will happen. Reports from South Korea say that Samsung will start rolling out the fix in a software update set to arrive tomorrow, April 25.

In addition, renowned product review publication Consumer Reports has stated that the reddish display problem “isn’t a controversial issue.” The publication tested eight Galaxy S8 units and the problem was encountered on four of them.

The software update will bring more display optimization options

The reddish tint was found on half of the tested Galaxy S8 smartphones, but the publication mentioned that the screens weren’t noticeably distorted or uncomfortable to see. The screens simply appeared slightly more red than the other four, while the issue doesn’t seem to be noticeable unless two phones are placed side by side.

Samsung intends to fix the issue by regulating the color balance of the device and restore white tones to increase the color range for users. This means that users will have more options for adjusting the display color to their preference.

Experts say that the red tint is due to OLED displays and that the difficulty to evenly deposit luminescent organic materials on panels during the manufacturing process could have led to this issue.

In addition, red, green and sub-pixels could have merged, thus causing a reddish tint to the display. Others say that a systematic glitch could have caused an excessively high driving voltage for red sub-pixels. As more and more consumers pick up the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, it’s important for Samsung to fix the issue quickly.
