Some users reported issues with their Galaxy S8 displays

A few days ago, several owners of Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones in Korea noticed that the display on their devices had a reddish tint. Samsung quickly responded, saying that it wasn’t a hardware issue, but rather a software matter.

The device maker has also said that Galaxy S8 owners can tweak display optimization settings to adjust the colors of the screen, but some users claim this doesn’t fix the issue. Fortunately, Samsung has acknowledged the matter, even though the company refuses to call it an issue.

Local reports from South Korea reveal that Samsung intends to provide a fix and will release a software update. Local media says that the fix could possibly arrive as early as next week, but Samsung didn’t reveal a timeline.

Multiple display options will be rolled out

Samsung’s officials did say that the software update would supplement the color optimization feature of the new smartphones, and also increase the color range that users can set. Samsung’s red discoloration issue was previously said to have been caused by faulty chips inside the smartphone or problems with the AMOLED display itself.

The software fix won’t be the first update that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones receive, as an update containing the April security patch has started rolling out to Europeans who received their devices early.

The update was spotted in Belgium and Germany, and it contains all the security updates, without any new features, as it’s a bit too early for that. The update carries build number NRD90M.G955FXXU1AQDD and will be waiting for owners to activate it once they turn on the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ for the first time.

In other markets like the US, Korea, Puerto Rico and Canada, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have been officially launched today. The smartphones come with Samsung’s Connect, Health and Pay services, together with Samsung’s own virtual assistant Bixby, but without voice commands for now.
