Samsung Z1, one of the most popular low-end smartphones launched by the South Korean company, is now receiving the highly-anticipated Tizen OS 2.4 upgrade.

The update is in testing since September 2015, but Samsung recently kicked off the rollout of the upgrade in India, TizenExperts reports.

Although the update is only available in India at the moment, we expect Samsung to continue the rollout in other countries where the Z1 is available for purchase, including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Samsung Z1 owners in India, who update from Tizen 2.3, will have to download a 262MB file, whereas those who participated in the beta program and have Tizen 2.4 beta on their devices will only have to download a 17MB file.

Many new features and enhancements

The new Tizen 2.4 OS comes with substantial improvements that will come in handy for Samsung Z1 users. Lots of new features have been added as well, including Voice Recorder, Image editor, Hints, and Memo.

New enhancements to already existent features like Messages, Smart Manager, Camera, Calculator, Music, Voice call, Video, FM Radio, Contacts, Settings, and Lock screen, have been implemented too.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air), but in case it doesn't show on your smartphone, you can manually check for Tizen 2.4 by heading to Settings / About device / Software update / Update.

Tizen 2.4 OS will be available for Samsung Z1 in other countries in about one week from now, but take this as a speculation rather than confirmed information.

Samsung has already launched another Tizen-powered smartphone in emerging markets, the Z3. The new handset comes with Tizen 2.3 operating system right out of the box, but Samsung promised an upgrade to 2.4 would arrive soon.

Even though Samsung Z3 is still a low-end smartphone, it's a consistent upgrade over the Z1 when it comes to specs.
