Now that Samsung announced the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, and pre-orders already went live at multiple carriers and retailers, there’s the matter of supply that must be addressed. Reports from before the launch, suggested that Samsung could face a shortage of supply for its newest flagship.

Samsung’s Mobile chief Koh Dong-jin stated in a recent interview that a strong initial supply was prepared for the first wave of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ sales. The South Korean company prepared double the initial supply of last year’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, saying that “no issue of supply delay” will be recorded.

Initially, Samsung expects to sell about 20 million units initially, while market analysts predict sales of over 46 million this year, more than the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge sales. The South-Korean company is betting big on the Galaxy S8 and intends to surpass the internal sales record that the Galaxy S7 set during its first year.

Samsung could sell 60 million Galaxy S8 units in total

By the end of the phones’ life cycle, Samsung could record total sales of 60 million, analysts say. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ mark a significant design change for the company’s Galaxy S line, as the physical home button was ditched and replaced by capacitive buttons built underneath the display.

The Infinity Display features a Quad HD+ resolution on the two phones with 18:5:9 aspect ratio. A curved, wider and longer screen means that more content can be displayed on the phone that introduced Samsung’s own intelligent interface Bixby. The new feature can learn the user’s behavior and predict actions that can be taken.

A new addition is the DeX Station, which provides a desktop experience, together with a monitor and keyboard. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are already up for pre-order, while the phones will be released on April 21. The unlocked version is expected to arrive on May 9 in the US.
