Samsung officially announced its newest flagship, the Galaxy S8, and introduced a new design to the Galaxy S line, aside from other new features and services. The main selling point of the Galaxy S8 is its Infinity Display that covers most of the front panel.

The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display, while the screen size on the Galaxy S8+ is 6.2 inches. The display covers more than 80% of the front panel and is 18% larger than the screen on the Galaxy S7, showing more content in a somewhat compact size.

The screen on both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smoothly curves at the edges, bezels were visibly reduced and the physical home button was removed, to make way for more screen space. The Galaxy S8 has a bigger length compared to its predecessors, but the device’s width remained similar to its predecessor, making the phone easy to grip and handle in one hand.

Samsung went a step further with the Galaxy S8 and integrated navigation buttons directly into the Infinity Display. Capacitive buttons are built directly in the screen, while the position of home, recent and back keys is the same as on previous Galaxy phones.

In addition, the home button was installed under the display and is set to respond to pressure, just like a physical button. Recent and back buttons can be customized in multiple colors, so that they would match the wallpaper on the home screen. The Galaxy S8’s display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, while the front panel comes with a small upper bezel that contains the front snapper, iris scanner and multiple other sensors.

The expanded Infinity Display shows more content, while it’s also optimized for multi-window usability, so users can multitask and work in more than one app at a time. Samsung also introduced a new Snap Window to pin a specific area from a recent app to the top of the screen and continue using the area below.
