Samsung is preparing to introduce its first flagship smartphone after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, while competitors like LG are seeing high sales of newly announced premium phones. Therefore, Samsung decided to air a new TV ad for the Galaxy S8 in Korea.

The TV ad doesn’t actually show the upcoming flagship, but it does hint towards the smaller top and bottom bezels, as well as the curved OLED display. Samsung aims to build hype around the Galaxy S8, while LG records massive sales during the first days since the launch of the LG G6.

The G6 already sold in more than 30,000 units in Korea since its launch on Friday, while customers pre-ordered 82,000 units since March 2. The G6 records a much-needed success for LG, after weak sales of the G5 in the past year.

Galaxy S8 teaser most viewed corporate video

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 promotion campaign has been very successful worldwide. The teaser that the company introduced during MWC 2017 managed to become the most watched corporate brand video last week, with a total view count of more than 26.6 million on YouTube. In contrast, LG’s ad for the G6 recorded 1.3 million views in one week, a major difference compared to Samsung.

The South Korean phone maker will announce the Galaxy S8 on March 29 and might make the phone available for purchase on April 21 in Korea. This leaves LG about two months for the G6 to attract customers, while Samsung will surely continue to build hype around the Galaxy S8.

Meanwhile, Samsung should direct its attention to the US market as well, seeing how many customers lost their confidence in the Korean company and shifted towards products from competitors last year. To back this up, famous and hilarious host of Last Week Tonight John Oliver mocked Samsung for its Galaxy Note 7 debacle recently. The video doesn’t help with Samsung’s brand image, including for its smartphone division. Truth be told, John Oliver often creates pamphlet materials about lots of companies, especially on issues relating to politics.

Before watching the video, please note that it contains foul language.
