Last year’s Galaxy Note 7 recall brought a plethora of problems for Samsung, as the South Korean company suffered massive financial loss and its brand image is still recovering. Several in-house and third-party investigations were launched after the recall, culminating with Samsung presenting its conclusions this year.

Two battery issues were behind the fiasco, as they’d determined Galaxy Note 7 units to overheat and catching fire, causing physical and property damage to multiple users. Some previous Galaxy Note 7 customers sued Samsung, others preferred to return their units and get a new phone instead.

The recall caused Samsung to lose many customers to other competitors, including Apple, LG and Google, while the South Korean phone maker is still focusing on improving its brand image.

Still, it seems that Samsung has moved on, considering that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7R or Galaxy Note FE is expected to arrive in June. The recall didn’t determine Samsung to discontinue the Galaxy Note series completely, although there was talk about this last year.

The white paper will contain specific cases of overheating Note 7 units

Now, reports from South Korea reveal that Samsung is planning to publish a white paper on last year’s Galaxy Note 7 recall, in an attempt to identify all underlying issues and prevent such incidents from ever happening again.

Researchers from Samsung and its battery-maker division Samsung SDI are leading the project, while some officials from the new chief risk management office will bring their contributions to the white paper. Samsung set up a new risk management division after the Galaxy Note 7 recall, with the sole purpose of overseeing quality and safety issues.

Reportedly, the white paper will provide extensive details on the recall, research and development, parts, production, quality assurance process, marketing and sales. Information about specific cases will also be included. The report doesn’t mention when the white paper will be published, but it should arrive before the Galaxy Note 8 makes its debut, sometime in August or September.
