Samsung has its very own 2-in-1 device now

As we told you yesterday, Samsung used the CES 2016 show in Las Vegas to take the wraps off its new 2-in-1 device that aims to compete against the Microsoft Surface and bring in similar features.

Galaxy TabPro S is designed to offer maximum portability, so Samsung tried to make it as thin and light as possible. The device thus comes with a 12-inch Super AMOLED screen and is only 6.3 millimeters thin. It can be easily carried around because it weighs just 693 grams.

Although in essence it's a tablet, the new TabPro S can instantly become a laptop thanks to a removable keyboard. And seeing as it runs the full version of Windows 10, it can switch from tablet to PC mode instantly when removing or connecting the keyboard.

Samsung says it put a lot of work into making the keyboard as light as possible, and thanks to its flat design and big trackpad, you won’t even notice that you’re working on a 12-inch device.

Fast charging and full Windows 10 support

The Super AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2160x1440 pixels and was specifically optimized to offer crisp and vivid colors, without a dramatic impact on battery life. In fact, the 5,200 mAh battery should provide up to 10.5 hours of life, but the device comes with a built-in fast charging mode that restores 100 percent of battery capacity in just 2.5 hours.

Additionally, the tablet comes with a 6th Generation Intel Core M processor (Dual Core 2.2GHz), 4 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage space, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, and 5 MP cameras on both the front and the back. A USB Type-C port provides fast transfer speed, with Samsung to offer hubs for additional connectivity options.

No Windows Hello hardware is available, and the device comes without a fingerprint reader, but you can use a Samsung phone and its fingerprint sensor to authenticate.

The company claims the new tablet is the result of a collaboration with Microsoft, and this is undoubtedly true, as Redmond really needs more manufacturers to jump on the Windows 10 bandwagon as soon as possible.

“Galaxy TabPro S balances the best of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab with the wealth of features on the Windows 10 operating system for the most advanced tablet experience on the market,” said Dongjin Ko, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Microsoft Corp. to deliver a 2-in-1 tablet that truly allows people to enjoy productivity and connections that matter most, through a seamless mobile station designed for all purposes.”

The new device with Wi-Fi and LTE support will go on sale in February, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
