Samsung building its very own 2-in-1 device

Microsoft indeed invented a new device category in 2012, when it launched the first Surface, a tablet that can double as a laptop thanks to a detachable keyboard, and now more manufacturers around the world are jumping on the bandwagon with their own devices.

Samsung, for instance, is working on its very own tablet-that-can-become-a-laptop kind of device, as new photos published by serial leaker Evan Blass on Twitter point to a look that reminds a lot of the Surface.

Called Samsung Galaxy TabPRO S, the new device comes with Windows 10 and has its very own detachable keyboard, which allows it to turn from a tablet into a laptop and vice-versa in just a second, just as is the case with the Surface.

The full Windows 10 power

What’s more, the Pro tag in its name suggests an approach that’s similar to Apple’s, as the fruity-named company called its latest tablet iPad Pro, also coming with a removable keyboard and also supposed to double as a laptop.

Technical specifications are missing right now, but it’s believed the device would pack a 12-inch screen and at least 2 GB of RAM to make it possible to run Windows 10. Higher-spec models will come with 4 GB of RAM, but also with the S Pen that Samsung is currently using on the Note5 smartphone (or an improved version) to enhance writing and drawing on the device.

Again, this strategy looks very similar to Microsoft’s, as the Redmond giant is also offering a Surface Pen with the same goal. It remains to be seen, however, how advanced the S Pen will turn out to be.

Pricing and release date information is not yet available, but Samsung might share more on this new device in the coming days at the CES show in Las Vegas. The debut could take place in spring, but expect the price tag to be below the one of the iPad Pro and obviously of the Surface Pro 4.
