Nvidia Maxwell is the only one that can keep up with it

One of the most powerful GPUs for mobile smartphones, Qualcomm's Adreno 430, is about to get an even more powerful sibling, the Adreno 530.

The Adreno 530 graphics processing unit will be part of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset that will power most of the flagship smartphones launched on the market this year.

Samsung Galaxy S7 will be one of the many handsets that will include the Snapdragon 820 chip, but LG G5, Xiaomi Mi5 and possibly HTC One M10, will also be packing the powerful SoC (system-on-chip).

If you've been worried about the graphics performance of Qualcomm's chipset, then the following piece of news should shed them away.

It appears that early GFXBench tests show Adreno 530 GPUs basically destroys all competition when it comes to performance.

The iPhone 6S Plus PowerVR GT7600 can barely keep up with Qualcomm's GPU, and the only one that could be a challenge for Adreno 530 is the Nvidia Maxwell that powers Google's Pixel C tablet.

Qualcomm's Adreno 530 GPU scores high in two sets of tests, and except the Nvidia Maxwell, it does not seem to have any rivals performance-wise, as you can see from the screenshots provided by GSMArena.

We have yet to see how Samsung's Mali-T880 MP12 GPU performs

However, there's one thing that we should take into consideration, and that's the fact that one of the major GPUs soon to be available on the market hasn't been tested yet.

We're talking about Samsung's Mali-T880 MP12 graphics processing unit, which is part of the company's Exynos 8890 chipset.

As many of you probably know by now, the international version of Samsung Galaxy S7 will come equipped with the Exynos 8890 CPU and a Mali-T880 MP12 GPU.

But, until the latter is tested using the same benchmarks, Adreno 530 remains the winner for the most powerful GPU included in a smartphone.
