One of the highly anticipated flagship smartphones of the first half of the year is about to be revealed in Barcelona, at MWC 2016.

However, we had the chance to play with the Galaxy S7 a few days ahead of the official announcement and here is what we've learned from Samsung.

First of all, you will have a hard time trying to distinguish the Galaxy S7 from the Galaxy S6, as they strongly resemble each other.

Almost all major improvements over the previous model are inside, hidden from the user's sight, but they are obvious the moment the Galaxy S7 is powered on.

Some of you might have anticipated that Samsung Galaxy S7 will come with another type of AMOLED display that is more power efficient and slightly brighter than the one used in Galaxy S6.

We can confirm that rumor / speculation and add the fact that Galaxy S7 boasts a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution that includes Always-on Display feature. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating is included as well.

The microSD card slot makes a comeback, but you won't be seeing two tray slots on the Galaxy S7's edges. Samsung has decided to hide the SD card slot in the SIM tray, so when you pull that out, you will notice that there are two slots: one for the SIM card and one for the SD memory card.

Slim camera, but no USB Type-C port

The fingerprint sensor remains under the Home button on the front side of the phone. One of the few improvements that are visible on the outside is the rear camera, which is smaller than the Galaxy S6's.

Samsung Galaxy S7 features a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with a bump of only 0.46mm thin. So, the fewer megapixels, the smaller the camera module, which means a thinner Galaxy S7.

On the downside, Samsung hasn't upgraded the USB port, so you will still get microUSB 2.0 instead of USB Type-C port, which, hopefully, will go mainstream soon.

The rest of the external buttons are located in the same places as on the Galaxy S6, including the speaker on the bottom side.

Samsung Galaxy S7 will be available in four color options: black, gold, silver and white. It will also come in two variations based on the chipset inside: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and Samsung Exynos 8890.
