Both will feature IP67 certifications for water resistance

It looks like Samsung is determined to win back some of its fans that have decided to keep their older flagship smartphones instead of upgrading to Galaxy S6 due to the lack of features like microSD card slot and removable battery.

According to a new report from VentureBeat, both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be packed with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 200GB).

Also, both flagship smartphones will feature IP67 certifications, which will make them dust- and water-proof. The standard Galaxy S7 will come with a 5.1-inch flat display while the S7 edge variant should sport a larger 5.5-inch curved display.

Both Super AMOLED displays support Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, but Samsung will also add AOD (always-on display) function that should save some battery life (only 1% battery per hour).

Moreover, Samsung will include larger batteries in both its flagships. The Galaxy S7 will be powered by a 3,000 mAh battery while the S7 edge will pack an even larger 3,600 mAh battery.

It's unclear whether or not they will remain non-removable, but the report claims they feature wireless charging (2 hours for Galaxy S7, 2.2 hours for S7 edge).

The international version of Galaxy S7 will be equipped with a powerful 2.3GHz octa-core Exynos 8890 processor while the Chinese and North American models will pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPUs.

No 128GB model has been mentioned yet

All versions will come with 4GB of RAM inside. There will be two Galaxy S7 models launched based on the amount of storage: 32GB and 64GB.

We reported yesterday about a screenshot allegedly taken from a Galaxy S7 prototype unit, and many (including us) have been surprised to see that Samsung has decided to downgrade the rear-facing camera to a 12.2-megapixel module.

The new report claims Samsung added a smaller module camera that features f/1.7 lens, which makes the camera better for capture pictures in low light conditions.

Since the 12.2-megapixel camera is smaller than the 16-megapixel one, the Galaxy S7 might not come with the usual hump on the back so that it will feature a thinner form factor.

Last but not least, both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be unveiled in mid-February, a few days ahead of Mobile World Congress 2016 trade fair.
