Only a couple of months after launching its new flagship smartphone, Galaxy S7 Edge, South Korean electronics company, Samsung is apparently working on a variant of the Galaxy S7. Recently, a post on GFXBench showed specifications for the upcoming Samsung S7 Active, dubbed SM-G891A.

Some specs for the new phone were revealed and it seems that the S7 Active will come with a larger display than its predecessor. It will have a 5.5 inch touchscreen display with at least 5 finger gesture support.

The resolution will reach 2560 x 1440 pixels, the same as on Galaxy S7, but the screen display is larger on the flagship phone. The smartphone will be powered by quad-core Snapdragon 820 CPU clocked at 2.1GHz, the same as for the Galaxy S7.

Moreover, it will come with Qualcomm Adreno 530 graphics, 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage capacity. It will have a 12MP rear camera and 5MP front camera with auto-focus and face detection. As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will include NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS connectivity.

The Galaxy S7s come with IP68 certification, which means that they are protected from dust and water for up to 30 minutes. Most likely, the Galaxy S7 Active will have military-grade MIL-STD-810G certification, which would make it more resistant to water and protected from altitude pressures, shock, and salt elements.

More powerful than the Galaxy S6 Active

Tests show that the Galaxy S7 Active won’t be coming with the heart rate sensor or a fingerprint sensor for user authentication. Considering the rumors, it seems that the Galaxy S7 Active will be a clear improvement from the Galaxy S6 Active.

Last year, Samsung launched a rugged version for the Galaxy S6 and this year’s edition might have the same design. The Galaxy S6 Active came with a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display and a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. It also had Quad-core 1.5 GHz processor and 3GB of RAM. Battery capacity reached 3500 mAh, it remains to be seen if the Galaxy S7 Active will be sporting a more powerful battery considering the larger display size.

Rumors on the SM-G891A first appeared in March, when a leak revealed that Samsung has started testing this new model. There’s no information on the release date and Samsung might actually make modifications to the specs on the S7 Active.
