Although Samsung Galaxy S7 and its curved sibling, the S7 edge, are water-resistant, the South Korean company plans to launch an ultra-rugged version of its flagship smartphone.

The Galaxy S7 Active will be initially launched in the United States, but it might also be available in other countries after a while. The information has been recently confirmed by @evleaks and should be a surprise for Samsung fans.

The world’s largest mobile vendor has been releasing rugged versions of its Galaxy S flagships for a few years now, and most of them have been introduced in the United States.

Earlier this year, some official documents revealed that AT&T might launch a differed version of Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge, which goes by the model number SM-G891A.

Today, Evan Blass has confirmed that Samsung SM-G891A is now being internally tested at AT&T and is known as Samsung Poseidon. This is just another evidence that Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will make its debut in the US via major carrier AT&T.

Also, it’s not hard to guess what the Galaxy S7 Active will offer in terms of specs, considering there should not be many changes in comparison with the standard model.

A larger battery and more rugged features are more than welcome

Aside from the usual rugged features that are meant to protect the Galaxy S7 Active from accidental drops, shocks and water, we’re also expecting Samsung to include a slightly larger battery.

Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a 3,000 mAh battery while the Galaxy S7 edge packs a larger 3,600 mAh battery. It would be nice for the Galaxy S7 Active to boast a massive 4,000 mAh battery, but that’s unlikely to happen.

However, it will be interesting to see whether or not AT&T will offer the Galaxy S7 Active for the same price as the standard model.

Unfortunately, there’s no word on when exactly the rugged Galaxy S7 will make its debut at AT&T, but since it’s still being tested, the carrier might not have decided when to launch it yet. Stay tuned for more updates on this one.
