Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 is certainly one of the most popular smartphones on the market right now, and it has hit stores in certain markets today. In addition, the handset has also been subjected to multiple tests to assess its durability and strength.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 has rivaled Apple’s iPhone 6s in a drop test conducted by PhoneBuff. The team from PhoneBuff regularly takes flagships soon after they’re released to the market and subject them to tests alongside competing phones.

The Galaxy Note 7 has been compared to the Galaxy S7 because of their similar specs and the fact that they both come with an all-glass body. However, the difference is that the Galaxy Note 7 sports Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is more durable than the S7’s Gorilla Glass 4 and can survive drops from up to 1.6 meters 80% of the time.

The test requires the two devices to be dropped from one meter high, on their backs, fronts, sides and bottoms. During the first drop on the back, the Note 7 sustained some damage on the bottom, with the glass slightly shattering.

The smartphone performed better than the S7, but not as good as the iPhone 6s, which didn’t sustain any cracks due to its metal back. The second test required the handset to be dropped on its bottom.

The Galaxy Note 7 won’t give up even after dozens of face drops

The Note 7 suffered some scratches, and the drop added to the damage on the back of the phone, with the glass cracking even more. In a drop test performed a few days ago, the Note 7 sustained some damage on the curved corner, making it a vulnerable part of the phone. The side drop didn’t cause any damage for the Note 7 or the iPhone 6s.

The front drop made the difference between the two phones. The two devices didn’t crack after the drop, but Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 definitely sustained less damage than the iPhone 6s. Since the phones were still functional after the test, they entered the bonus round in which the iPhone 6s sustained 5 additional drops until it was rendered useless and couldn’t place a call anymore.

Quite surprisingly, the Galaxy Note 7 was dropped a whopping 50 times, and it was still functional. The Note 7 clearly beat the iPhone 6s and became the third most durable phone tested by PhoneBuff, with Galaxy S7 Active on the first spot, followed by Moto Z Force.
