Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was announced just earlier this month, and it seems that tech enthusiasts have already started experimenting with the smartphone. In a recent durability test, the handset underwent scratching, burning, and bending.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything is known to test various smartphones and find out which of them are the most durable. In a recent video, the newly released Galaxy Note 7, which is the first phone to come with Gorilla Glass 5 protective glass, received the same treatment from the YouTuber.

Corning announced that the Gorilla Glass 5 boasts enhanced protection against phone drops from about a meter high on rough surfaces. The protective glass on the Galaxy Note 7 performed rather well in a recent durability test that requested the device to be dropped on its front, back, and side. Following the test, the smartphone suffered a crack on its lower back edge, but no major damage was done to the screen.

The Galaxy Note 7 was subjected to yet a new durability test that involved the handset being scratched, burned, and even bent. The scratch test revealed that the display suffered damage at level 5 out of 9 and really visible marks at level 6.

However, scratch marks were visible with level 3. Most phones suffer scratches around level 6, including the Galaxy S7 edge, and it was quite surprising to see that the latest Gorilla Glass model didn't do so well as compared to its predecessor. Gorilla Glass 5 seems to be more shatter-resistant than the Gorilla Glass 4, but it appears that it's just one step above plastic on the hardness scale. Users should get screen protectors in order to avoid scratches on the Note 7.

The fingerprint scanner failed to function following the scratch test

Another interesting test was the scratch test on the fingerprint scanner. Most smartphone fingerprint scanners still functioned after the home button was scratched, but not the one on the Galaxy Note 7. In fact, it seems that the scanner became completely non-responsive and never functioned again. The home button functionality was fine.

The Galaxy Note 7 performed well during the bending test, as the smartphone didn't snap, and not even the flame test produced any major damage to the phone.
