Samsung has finally announced that the Galaxy Fold would go on sale in September, just a few weeks after the company also releases the Galaxy Note 10.

The Galaxy Fold was originally projected to hit the shelves in April, but the device was then pushed back due to issues with the screen discovered by early reviewers. Since then, Samsung is believed to have repeatedly delayed the Galaxy Fold as the company struggled to resolve even the smallest problem.

“Earlier this year, we announced Galaxy Fold—Samsung’s first foldable device, and the beginning of an entirely new mobile category. Since then, we’ve made improvements to Galaxy Fold to ensure consumers have the best possible experience,” Samsung says in a press release.

Essential improvements on the Galaxy Fold

The company claims it managed to do five key improvements to the Galaxy Fold.

First of all, the top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display now covers the bezels as well, so everything looks like one piece that users are unlikely to try to remove. Then, there are additional metal layers under the screen to make it more durable, while the space between the hinge and the body has been reduced.

Samsung claims it has also added additional reinforcements to protect the device from external particles, and last but not least, it strengthened the top and bottom of the hinge with more protection caps.

All of these should allow Samsung to launch the Galaxy Fold in September, according to the company. Only select markets will get it at first, but the firm hasn’t provided any other specifics.

“Samsung is conducting final product tests to make Galaxy Fold available to consumers starting from September in select markets. Availability details will be shared as we get closer to launch,” the company says.

A recent report indicated that Samsung Galaxy Fold testing could be prioritized for a number of large markets, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
