Samsung is one of the last handset makers to deliver Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates to its high-end smartphones.

Even though the South Korean company did not announce the rollout of the update has already begun, we have already reported that some Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge owners have received Marshmallow on their smartphones.

Today, Samsung has officially confirmed that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now being pushed to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in South Korea, but some users in Europe have begun getting the upgrade as well.

Along with the official confirmation, Samsung also put together a comprehensive list that contains some of the most important improvements that Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings to both Galaxy S devices.

Among the significant ones is the fact that the Galaxy S6 edge secondary panel has been widened from 260 pixels to 550 pixels, which will allow news displayed on this panel to integrate images.

New content for the edge panel, extra features

Tasks edge and Quick tools features for the Galaxy S6 edge have been enhanced as well with additional functions like quick calling and option to send an SMS to a specific contact. The Quick tools now offers one-touch access to flashlight and a few other features.

Samsung also added some options in the Settings menu for the secondary panel, which will allow users to adjust the size and transparency to fit their needs.

The South Korean handset maker also announced a few partnerships with other companies that will offer extra content for the edge display, including news, shopping, and movies.

Naver and Daum have teamed up with Samsung to introduce a wider variety of content for the extended edge panel.

Although Samsung has only confirmed the update in South Korea, we expect Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge device in other countries to start receiving the update as well.

Hopefully, Samsung will provide more details on Android 6.0 Marshmallow for other Galaxy smartphones at MWC 2016 later this month.
