Samsung UK officially stated why the update was delayed

Samsung already rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to its Samsung S7 and S7 edge smartphones in multiple countries. Recently, the update started hitting Galaxy S7 phones at Verizon, the last big carrier to offer the update to such smartphones.

Samsung said the update would arrive to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge phones as well until the end of February, but this hasn't happened yet. Samsung UK has recently stated that the update has been delayed because the company needs to “review its quality”.

The South Korean device maker probably wishes to squash all bugs and make the update smooth on such devices, and thus it has delayed the rollout. The company didn’t say when the update would eventually arrive, but it shouldn’t be long now. Many smartphone makers have been forced to delay the Nougat rollout to their flagships due to unexpected bugs. One of them is Sony, who completely stopped the Nougat rollout to all Xperia devices and re-commenced it later.

It will probably be the last mobile OS update for the Galaxy S6

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are 2 years old now and the Nougat update might be the last mobile OS update that these two phones will see. Samsung will most likely continue to release security updates for the two phones and the S6 edge+ throughout 2017 and later, but an update to the next Android OS version might not arrive.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 has already been certified and brings a multitude of neat features, including multi window support, quick reply from the notification bar and improved performance modes. Such modes will allow users to customize presets for Medium to Maximum power saving mode.

Android 7.0 Nougat should also arrive to the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A3, A8 and Galaxy Tab S2, but it remains to be seen when that will happen.
