New updates will arrive on September 15 on other platforms

It's been quite a ride for GTA Online players who own the game on either PS3 or Xbox 360 platforms, but it looks like this is the end of the road for them.

Developer Rockstar recently revealed that a major series of updates for GTA Online will start rolling out on various gaming platforms on September 15.

However, PS3 and Xbox 360 won't be among the platforms that will be getting these new updates. In fact, Rockstar doesn't plan on updating the game on these consoles anymore.

The information comes via Kotaku, which also has Rockstar's official statement published by the developer back in May, which somewhat hints at this decision:

“As we mentioned previously, we always knew there might be a point where we would reach the technical capacity of what the older generation of consoles can handle as each downloadable update requires additional memory both for assets and for additional scripting.

“We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall.”

No Freedom Events and Rockstar Editor for PS3 & Xbox 360 players

On the plus side, the new updates for GTA Online coming to the rest of the gaming platforms (PC, PS4 and Xbox One) contain quite a lot of new features and improvements.

Freedom Events, new optional events for all players on the map to band together, which are separate from the usual Jobs (mission), are just some of the new stuff included in this update that should arrive on September 15.

Also, the Rockstar Editor will be implemented to PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game beginning next week, since the PC game already has it.

Last but not least, the Cross the Line and Hunting Pack new Adversary Modes will be added too. The former is an on-foot mode that challenges players and their teams to get across enemy lines to win while the latter is somewhat a racing car competition.

Unfortunately, these changes won't come to PS3 and Xbox 360, so those who still want to benefit from the many updates Rockstar plans for GTA Online might want to upgrade to a next-generation console.
