The US-based company landed more orders for its new chipset

Some of the best high-end smartphones available on the market have Qualcomm's chipsets at their cores. The trend will continue throughout the year as the US-based company's new Snapdragon 835 SoC (system-on-chip) will make its debut on the Galaxy S8 in late April.

But Qualcomm's success is not just tied to the Samsung Galaxy S8's launch, as the chipset maker landed orders from many smartphone makers in the last couple of months.

Digitimes reports Qualcomm will be expanding Snapdragon 835's market share in the second and third quarters of the year, thus leaving no space to expand for MediaTek's high-end Helio X30 chipset.

Even though previous reports highlighted a low yield rate of Qualcomm's 10nm chips, the company has continued to receive orders for the Snapdragon 835 processor from many smartphone makers, which should have their products hit the shelves starting Q2 2017.

Sources familiar with Qualcomm's plans confirm the company continued to release more software and firmware to support its Snapdragon 835 platform and avoid any issue that might arise in the manufacturing process.

The first wave of Snapdragon 835-powered phones should hit the shelves in Q2

The same sources claim Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 has managed to outpace the Helio X30 “in terms of scalability, software support and also economies of scale.” If the information is correct, then the Snapdragon 835 will definitely dominate the high-end smartphone market in 2017.

The launch of the Snapdragon 835 chipset has been a bit delayed due to the Galaxy S8's late release, as Samsung has dibs on Qualcomm's powerful 10nm SoC.

Although many handset makers would have wanted to include the processor inside their flagships announced last month at MWC 2017, the lack of stock forced them to opt for an earlier generation, the Snapdragon 821.

Thankfully, that will change right after the Galaxy S8 makes its debut on the market in late April, as Sony, OnePlus, Xiaomi, LeEco and other major brands will make new announcements.
