Qualcomm now claiming Apple is violating six patents

The fight between Qualcomm and Apple is far from over, and things just got to a whole new level today when Qualcomm, world's leader in 3G and next-generation mobile technologies, requested that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) place a ban on all iPhone and iPad devices that use a 4G wireless modem from Intel.

This breaking news comes from Financial Times, which reports that Qualcomm’s Don Rosenberg told them that they'd placed a "limited exclusion order" for all of Apple's devices that use Intel’s 4G wireless modem, but not on those that are powered by Qualcomm’s chips, of course, claiming Apple is violating six patents, for which it put together an inforgraphic.

"This is a pretty straightforward case: we’ve got six patents that we are confident they are infringing," says Don Rosenberg, Qualcomm’s general counsel, for the Financial Times. "We are obviously very concerned about the fact that Apple has unilaterally decided it doesn’t have to pay for property it takes and uses."

The ban would affect all iPhone 7 units, as well as future iPhone models

According to the Financial Times, Qualcomm's complaint is also being filed with the US District Court for the Southern District of California, not only the US International Trade Commission (ITC), and it looks like the company wants to ban iPhone sales in the U.S. through a cease and desist order too.

If approved, the ban will affect all iPhone 7 units, as well as future iPhone models that Apple plans to unveil later this year, in September or October. The next iPhone is rumored as "iPhone 8" and it could ship with many new technologies, including wireless and fast charging, facial recognition, and OLED display.
