The gaming community is not going to be happy about this

Epic Games continues to pick up exclusives for their Epic Store, and it looks like Outer Wilds is the last one to join the pack.

The Epic Games Store is picking up yet another exclusive on PC, a practice that’s not well received on this platform. In fact, PC users are always upset when some game becomes a console exclusive just because Sony or Microsoft paid for it. It’s an annoying practice that’s wasn’t common on PC, at least not until recently.

To be fair, platform exclusives are already present in the PC world for quite some time. You can also play Blizzard games on their platform, you can only play FIFA and other EA titles only on Origin, and the same goes for Ubisoft. The difference is that neither of these publishers is paying for other games only to be released for their platform.

Backers are not happy

Outer Wilds only in the Epic Games Store might not be such a big problem if the game didn't finish a round of crowdfunding on Fig. The backers are felling a little bit betrayed because they knew they are getting the game on Steam.

The announcement was made on the crowdfunding page and slipped among other information. It’s worth noting that the platform exclusivity is limited to a few months, most likely.

“Outer Wilds will first be released on Xbox One and on PC via the Epic Games Store, with additional platforms coming later. Rest assured that we read all of your comments and our goal is to bring the game to your preferred platform as quickly as possible. Throughout the development of the game, we’ve welcomed helpful partnerships with Annapurna Interactive, Xbox, and Epic to support us and keep our small studio running long enough to ship the game at the level of quality that it is today.”

This message says more than just what’s evident. It’s a small studio that needs support to release the game. From the looks of it, the developers had to make some deals to be able to bring the game to the market.

Outer Wilds was already delayed, but it looks like it’s finally arriving.
